Enhancing Language Skills: A Corpus-Based Approach to Teaching Verb Collocations

In the dynamic landscape of English language teaching, innovative approaches are essential to engage students effectively. My friend Mustafa Şen and I have crafted a corpus-based assignment targeting high school preparatory class students with a primary focus on verb collocations. This cutting-edge material aims to achieve several objectives.

OBJECTIVES

  • Expand Vocabulary: Students will enhance their vocabulary by acquiring a deeper understanding of verb collocations, enabling them to express themselves more precisely.
  • Improve Language Proficiency: Through practical application and analysis of real language use in diverse contexts, students will develop a heightened proficiency in using verbs appropriately.
  • Cultivate Critical Thinking: The corpus-based assignment encourages students to critically evaluate language patterns, fostering analytical skills essential for effective communication.

Designed for high school preparatory class students, the material caters to learners at a crucial stage of language development. By integrating real-world language data, the content is tailored to resonate with the interests and linguistic needs of this specific age group.

The core focus revolves around verb collocations, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of how verbs naturally combine with specific words to convey meaning accurately. This targeted approach facilitates a more intuitive grasp of the language, enabling students to express themselves with greater fluency.

Despite the benefits of our corpus-based material, potential challenges may arise during implementation. Time constraints in a typical classroom setting could limit the depth of exploration. Additionally, varying levels of technological access among students might pose hurdles in accessing the corpus data.

In conclusion, our corpus-based assignment stands as a promising tool for English language teaching, providing students with a practical and immersive experience in mastering verb collocations. As with any innovative approach, addressing potential challenges will be crucial to ensuring the material's successful integration into real classrooms.

Teaching Through AR/VR

 Hello, again! How is it going? I hope you're all fine. In this blog, I will talk about my experiences about AR/VR integration to English language teaching. For this activity, we collaborated together with Tuğrul Dölen .  Hello! Welcome again to my blog. I hope you're fine. These days, I have acquired new skills. two experiences, in actuality. one) creating a wiki; and two) reviewing movies. I won't say that it was difficult for me to describe what happened if I had to. I was joined in our movie review endeavor by my classmate Ebru. Moreover, working with her was enjoyable.
